Bloom's Taxonomy Blooms Digitally

  1. This article is very insightful and causes one to consider classroom assignments in a new way. Ideas can be generated regarding creating assignments that incorporate technology but also taking them a step further in involving higher-order thinking processes.

  2. Bloom's Taxonomy has not changed since it's inception. The only thing that has changed are the terms we use to define it. Vocabulary is changing all the time and to keep up Bloom's Taxonomy has to be revised. I started to look at all the "new" words added to Bloom's taxonomy and I realized a that if you start breaking down the meanings of the words you are still getting to the root words of what Bloom describes his original taxonomy as. I think the author makes a clear connection with Bloom's work and digital learning. It is just a matter of definitions!

  3. We have all learned about and discussed Bloom's taxonomy in our education classes, but this article helps bring it into today's classroom. The new vocabulary added to Bloom's original terms gives useful ideas and ways to incorporate more higher order thinking into our classrooms. This can help get teacher's creative juices flowing as well!

  4. The article applies Bloom's taxonomy to today's classroom with today's students. It all makes great sense to me; however, I'm not sure that that is what is happening in our schools. This article encourages us as educators to explore ways we can implement these strategies into our teaching. We would still be realizing our goals as educators, but we would be doing it in a way in which our students can relate and train them for the classrooms of the future.

  5. We all, as an educators know Bloom's Taxonomy as it applies to teaching, specially about higher order thinking. It is interesting how just adding new description verbs one is able to incorporate the taxonomy to the use of the internet. Well done> I think the author makes a real connection with bloom's Taxonomy in a way that can be interpreted by both, today teachers and students. The inclusion of more verbs for every stage is invaluable resource for both teachers and students alike, and the description of the stages now appropriate to the internet is great!

  6. As our students go online, there are many opportunities for them to learn but also opportunities for them to make life-changing mistakes. The "Analyzing" and "Evaluating" levels of Bloom's revised taxonomy become especially important as students need to develop the skills necessary to make good choices. We can teach these skills in our classrooms by encouraging young minds to remember, understand and apply their knowledge of rules and consequences (behaviorally and academically). From this foundation, students can make even more connections and speed up their learning.

  7. Bloom's is forever present in our teaching careers. It directs our planning and instruction. We all strive to create lessons that guide and facilitate higher order thinking skills. Changing the words to verbs has only modernized it for the 21st century student. With what we know, students learn better by experiencing and exploring their learning. Also, by adding the digitized words, Bloom's has also adapted for the 21st century leaner. Students still need to have the baseline knowledge to conquer the higher order thinking skills; they are going to be required to create much more in their lifetimes. As educators we have to prepare them and include these digital additions in their daily explorations of learning. Sadly, this is not included in many classrooms throughout our country.

  8. I have been a big advocator of Bloom's but I have never really seen anything that related it all to 21st Century terms. This article is a few years old and I still think it is up-to-date. I was unfamiliar with the term "hacking." This was a different meaning of hacking than I know. I really enjoyed this article! It was very accurate and the examples they gave for each were all ones that students are capable of doing in some way.

  9. Very insightful article on the evolution of Bloom’s Taxonomy. It’s would be interesting to know how Benjamin would see the evolution of his concept with the use of technology in the developing, application and analytical concepts that are needed for both the teacher and the student. Also the use of technology in the understanding process is well explained and very well needed as student are more involved in the use of social networking.

  10. The article was interesting. I like how it has incorporated all the new technology verbs and how they are categorized. It is very informative and useful to teachers in regards to technology courses. So many new technologies have come to age lately that is is about time some one updated Bloom's Taxonomy for the current student.

  11. I agree with Robert on the fact that the technology words being incorporated into the taxonomy are already present, just with a different vocabulary. I think that this article is helpful for teachers to help them realize how incorporating technology into learning is moving students to a higher level of thinking- it is not always just for fun. I think many times we know students already do many of these things, but it is not given any educational value. As we move into the future, being aware of how technology fits into education and the growth of individual students will greatly influence teachers' instruction and incorporation of technology.

  12. I found this article interesting and well thought out. The use of technology in the classroom should be investigated in regards to Blooms taxonomy. Although, writing on a computer screen or writing on paper to me are the same thing. The thought processes are the same, is it really necessary to change the wording to fit today's technology? I am not so sure.

I found it interesting how the author tied in the new terminology with Bloom's Taxonomy, but also slightly insulting to our intelligences by placing the same base and adding in the technology part (most educators can put the one to the other). It is helpful for those who struggle with those issues but I agree with kstroberg. It is merely just changing the wording to fit today's technology. I would know my kids are creating whether it is a family tree using pages and the internet or on paper with drawings. Ultimately, they both acomplish the same goal. It is just a different means to the same end.

  14. I thought the author did a good job connecting Bloom and his work to current digital learning. In describing each category he did was able to tie technology and digital learning to each level of learning. Having said that, I would agree with Robert in that changing the words to verbs, and using a variety of other words to describe each level of Bloom’s Taxonomy, doesn’t change what the original meaning was intended to be.
